The Year of Secret Assignments

Publisher: Scholastic
Pages: 340
Source: Bought the book for review

Goodreads Synopsis:

The Ashbury-Brookfield pen pal program is designed to bring together the two rival schools in a spirit of harmony and "the Joy of the Envelope."  But when Cassie, Lydia, and Emily send their letters to  Matthew, Charlie, and Sebastian, things don't go quite as planned.  What starts out as a simple letter exchange soon leads to secret missions, false alarms, lock picking, mistaken identities, and an all-out war between the schools- not to mention some really excellent kissing! -Goodreads-

My Thoughts:

The Year of Secret Assignments is exactly what it sound like.  There are three girls that are best friends.  They do everything together.  They all have the same English class and they are all given the same assignment, write to a pen pal at the neighboring school.  They really do not want to do it but they do and they actually gain a relationship with their pen pals.

The book is written mainly of notes, email, diary entries, and writing workshop for the pen pals.  I think that is really amazing that the whole book is written like this.  It just doesn't happen that often.  And when it does it is usually not to this extent.  When a book is written think this I usually really love everything about it. They just really flow together and keep the story interesting.

The book really shows you how you that if you have really great friends that they will be there with you.  That true friends will really truly help you has much as they can.  I am not going to lie.  This book was kind of a downer for me.  I was expecting so much from the book and it really just did not deliver.  Don't get me wrong....the book is fun, light, and such a easy read.  But I was just expecting so much more.

My Rating:

I actually gave this book 2 out 5 stars.  I liked the book but it just was not a book that I could not put down. If you want a really easy read and a fun read...this book is for you!

  1. Doesn't sound like a bad book. Of course not like one of those 'read it all the time as soon as you can' books either but after reading the review I can say that there is a high chance that I'd actually enjoy reading this book.
