Review: Take a Bow

Take a Bow
By: Elizabeth Eulberg
Publisher: Point Publishing
Release Date: April 1, 2012
Pages: 278
Source: ARC given for review (Thank you)

Goodreads Synopsis:

From the fantastic author of The Lonely Hearts Club and Prom & Prejudice comes a story of all the drama and comedy of four friends who grow into themselves at a performing arts high school.

Emme, Sophie, Ethan, and Carter are seniors at a performing arts school, getting ready for their Senior Showcase recital, where the pressure is on to appeal to colleges, dance academies, and professionals in show business. For Sophie, a singer, it's been great to be friends with Emme, who composes songs for her, and to date Carter, soap opera heartthrob who gets plenty of press coverage. Emme and Ethan have been in a band together through all four years of school, but wonder if they could be more than just friends and bandmates. Carter has been acting since he was a baby, and isn't sure how to admit that he'd rather paint than perform. The Senior Showcase is going to make or break each of the four, in a funny, touching, spectacular finale that only Elizabeth Eulberg could perform. -Goodreads-

My Thoughts:

I received this book at NCTE this past year.  I had so much fun.  I meant some really great authors and some really great people!  I am currently thinking about going again this year in VEGAS but we shall see because I just recently bought a house.  :)

The book is about a group of friends that go a high school that focuses on music and creative arts.  They have to audition every semester to stay in the school.  It is very difficult to just go and apply, and then attend this high school.  Now Emme doesn't think that she is good enough to attend the high school because all she wants to do is write the music, not sing it.  On her first day of school is meets the group of guys that are going to be her best friends all through high school.  They are going to be there until the end.  I think that this aspect of the book made me really love it.  You usually read about the girl that has the best girl friend and they are together through the whole book.  It made the book more interesting to know that she was having conversation with boys that looked at her as one of the guys instead of a girl that they want to be with.
But you need to understand that this is not a normal high school.  Everyone is out to get each other.  They all want to be on top. But one thing will keep them all close, the fact that they are really close friends.

If you want a great easy read about a group of friends that stick together until the end, this book is defiantly for you.  I really liked this book. It was different and that kept my interest.  Elizabeth did such a great job with this book.  I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone that loves the music world, yet also loves the book world.

My Rating:

I am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Review: Temptation

Temptation
By: Karen Ann Hopkins
Publisher: Harlequin
Release Date: June 26, 2012
Pages: 304
Source: Netgalley!!! (Thank you!)

Goodreads Synopsis:

Your heart misleads you. That's what my friends and family say. But I love Noah. And he loves me. We met and fell in love in the sleepy farming community of Meadowview, while we rode our horses together through the grassy fields and in those moments in each other's arms. It should be ROSE & NOAH forever, easy. But it won't be. Because he's Amish. And I'm not. -Goodreads-

My Thoughts:

When I saw this on Netgalley I thought to myself that it might be good.  And you know what, it was addicting.  The story sucked you in.  You wanted to know more about Noah and Rose.  You wanted to know if at the end they were going to be able to be together.  You wanted them to be happy.  You wanted to know if their love was to overcome all.

Rose and her family are moving to the country.  Her dad got a new job at the local hospital and really nothing was holding them back.  But this is not a normal country home, this home is in Amish country.   And get this....her neighbors are Amish, which she is totally fine with. But she just really doesn't know what to expect.  When she goes to meet the neighbors she meets Noah.  Noah is the hot boy next door that she is forbidden to touch because of his religion.   But is that going to stop her....not so much.  They will do anything to be together....and I mean anything.

This book easily tied you in.  I would tell myself that I was going to just read about a chapter or two and then I would be reading for hours.  The book was good. but it just was not my cup of tea.  I think that it needed something more.  But all in all I thought the story was good.

My Rating:

I am giving this book 3 out 5 stars.

Review: Insurgent

Insurgent
By: Veronica Roth
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 525
Release Date: May 1, 2012
Source: Borrowed from a friend! :)

Goodreads Synopsis:

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature. -Goodreads-

My Thoughts:

I did it!!! I read the book that I was anticipating the most!  And boy did it live up to its standards and more!!    I knew this book was going to be so much better then the first, but I did not know that it was going to be that much better!

Last weekend while I was at RT Teen Day in Chicago, I saw some of my great blogging friends.  It was so nice to finally catch up with them.  But then I spotted it a mile away!!!  My friend DJ had INSURGENT!!!  I couldn't believe it...  Then after some talking, :), he let me borrow it in exchange of me getting it signed when I meet Veronica in May!  Boy was I so happy!  I couldn't put it down!  I couldn't believe that I was going to be able to read the  ONE book that I could not wait to read.  And was it worth it!!!

Tris is back and ready for action!  But a lot as happened since the first time  we met her.  Her are Four are still together and waiting to see where their life is going to take them.  But little do they know, that what lies is going to bring them closer then ever!!!  Now I don't want to give too much away but I do want to tell you this...THIS BOOK IS SO WORTH IT!  And I just want you to know that this book is defiantly so far book of the year!!! I know it!

Please, when this book comes out go and buy it!  You will not be disappointed.  This book has everything a book in this genre needs.  It as some of the greatest actions scenes so far, and just the right amount of romance in it.  Oh and please if you have read this book, go to page 301 and read it...this is the turning point for the book.  This part made a good book, one hell of a book.

My Rating:

I am giving this book 5 out 5 stars only because I can't give it like 1,000,000 stars out of 5...:)

Review: Vixen

Vixen
By: Jillian Larkin
Publisher:  Random House Children's Books
Pages: 432
Release Date: December 14, 2010
Source: Bought for review

Goodreads Synopsis:

Jazz . . . Booze . . . Boys . . . It’s a dangerous combination.

Every girl wants what she can’t have. Seventeen-year-old Gloria Carmody wants the flapper lifestyle—and the bobbed hair, cigarettes, and music-filled nights that go with it. Now that she’s engaged to Sebastian Grey, scion of one of Chicago’s most powerful families, Gloria’s party days are over before they’ve even begun . . . or are they?

Clara Knowles, Gloria’s goody-two-shoes cousin, has arrived to make sure the high-society wedding comes off without a hitch—but Clara isn’t as lily-white as she appears. Seems she has some dirty little secrets of her own that she’ll do anything to keep hidden. . . .

Lorraine Dyer, Gloria’s social-climbing best friend, is tired of living in Gloria’s shadow. When Lorraine’s envy spills over into desperate spite, no one is safe. And someone’s going to be very sorry. . . .  -Goodreads-

My Thoughts:

When I look at this cover, all I can do is think that this book is so pretty.  I love the picture on the cover.  It really draws you in.  I know you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I did when it came to this book.  I knew from the first time I saw this book that I had to read it.  And I am so glad that I did!!

The book is about a 3 girls in Chicago in the 1920's.  They are living the life that you think a girl in this time and age should be living.  They are debutantes, they are planning their weddings, they are growing up in a time where women are just a pretty face to be seen with. But they do not want to be that, they want to be someone else.  They want to be a person. When I was reading this book it really made me want to go back into this time and live my life.  I think that this would so great! I mean I know that women were sometimes treated like they weren't even in the room, but I think that that is why a lot of women were so strong during this time because they had to raise against their odds.

I heard so many great things about this book that I knew I had to read it! I had no idea that I was going to love this book as much as I did.  It was beyond words good.  I mean I have been working on this review for two days because I could not find the words to express how I felt about this book.  But I finally figured out what I wanted to say....  If you want a book that has some action...not a lot...just enough, a really great love story, and girl drama(common on...we all love a little girl drama) this book is defiantly for you!  I think that this book had a perfect amount of everything that it was bringing to the table.

My Rating:

I am giving this book 4 out 5 stars!!!

Review: Pretty Amy

pretty amy

Pretty Amy
By: Lisa Burstein
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Release Date: May 15, 2012
Pages: 304
Source: given from publisher for reveiw :)(Thank you)

Goodreads Synopsis:

Amy is fine living in the shadows of beautiful Lila and uber-cool Cassie, because at least she’s somewhat beautiful and uber-cool by association. But when their dates stand them up for prom, and the girls take matters into their own hands—earning them a night in jail outfitted in satin, stilettos, and Spanx—Amy discovers even a prom spent in handcuffs might be better than the humiliating “rehabilitation techniques” now filling up her summer. Worse, with Lila and Cassie parentally banned, Amy feels like she has nothing—like she is nothing.

Navigating unlikely alliances with her new coworker, two very different boys, and possibly even her parents, Amy struggles to decide if it’s worth being a best friend when it makes you a public enemy. Bringing readers along on an often hilarious and heartwarming journey, Amy finds that maybe getting a life only happens once you think your life is over. -Goodreads-

My Thoughts:

Close your eyes, think back to when you went to Prom.  You are spending all day getting ready, or hanging out with your girlfriends waiting for the night to start... Well that is what should be happening to Amy, but it is not.  She was stood up by her date.  That sucks.  That is the worst night ever to be stood up.  So her friends and her decide to go and have a party of their own, and they get caught.  So she now has to deal with her friends not talking to her, her mother treating her like she has the plague, and because she was arrested she won't be able to walk at graduation.  I think that if I was Amy I would find a really big rock and hide under it... So during this time of waiting to see if Amy is going to jail, she finds a job just to get out of her parents house....oh and because her mom is making her pay the lawyer bill.   She learns that it takes a lot for this problem to go away.  I think that the character really grows with the book.  She really shows that it was a stupid mistake.  But the one thing that really sucks that she will lose her friends.  Maybe that will be for the best.  Maybe she needs to make new friends that won't get her arrested.

I did the cover reveal for this book and ever since then I could not wait to get my hands on this book and read it.  And boy was it amazing!  It was everything that I thought it was going to be and more.  This book in 5 words is AMAZING, WONDERFUL, FUNNY, EMOTIONAL, and just plain AWESOME!!!!!!  This book had everything that I think a great book needs!  Lisa you did an amazing job.  I can't not wait to read more of your work...  If you ever need someone to be a beta reader I will so do that! lol

Please do yourself a favor and on May 15th please go to the store and buy this book....better yet pre order it on Kindle or Barnes and Noble, and then you get it at midnight!!!! :)  I promise that you will love it!

My Rating:

I am giving this book 5 out 5 stars!!! Like it deserves!  You have to read it!  It is so worth it!

Prom and books really do go hand and hand....

Well we are in spring!  It is finally here!  I thought this winter was never going to end.  This past winter was not that bad...but I still  hate everything about the winter.  I hate being cold...:(  So I am very happy that the weather is nice and sometimes warm outside.

Spring brings some really awesome things....baseball, softball, camp fires, and the best one of them all....prom.

I remember being in high school this was the best time of  the year!  You were trying to figure out who you were going with, what you were wearing, and where you were eating before hand.  These were all questions that I asked myself repeatedly my junior and senior year of high school.  But with all the planning and stressing, it was the best time of my life!

Review: Starters

Starters
By: Lissa Price
Publisher: Delacortie Press
Pages: 368
Release Date: March 13, 2012
Source: Bought at book signing

Goodreads Synopsis:

HER WORLD IS CHANGED FOREVER

Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie's only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man.

He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie's head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator's grandson. It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations' plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined. . . .

My Thoughts:

I <3 Dystopians.  I can not get enough of them.  I think they will never get old, and this book  is one of the reasons.  This book was a very fresh take on dystopians.  It showed that you not only need a different world, but you need a different culture as well.

You meet Callie.  She is a starter.  In this world there are Starters and there are Enders.  The Enders usually live to 100 years old or long and they usually have a lot of money.  So they pay a company to get Starters to come in and rent their body so that they can live a little.  I mean, how genius is that! It sounded amazing when I heard about the book and then I was recommended the book by a fellow blogger.  (Jacinda@thereadinghousewives)  And boy am I glad that I read this book.  I seriously can not wait to read the next book, Enders.  It comes out this December!!!! :) I will be counting down the days!

If you want to read a book that is amazing and keeps you on your toes, this is defiantly a book for  you!  I am so happy that I gave this book a chance.  This book had everything that I think a book should have!  It was a page turner, it had action, and suspense.  I think that those are must haves for a good dystopian.  And Lissa Price did just that.

My Rating:

I am giving this book 5 out 5 stars!
